Lyon takes a ride with Uber

Fast growing transportation network company Uber have entered into a new partnership with French football club Olympique Lyonnais in line with its plan to strengthen its presence in major European stadiums and concert venues.

The Ligue 1 side have partnered with the taxi app to bolster travel options for spectators visiting their new stadium, OL Park, which opened earlier this month. From now on, visitors will be able to use the Uber app to order taxis to and from a dedicated area outside the venue.

The partnership took effect for Lyon’s 1-1 draw with Marseille on Sunday, a game that attracted more than 56,000 spectators.

Olympique Lyonnais Marketing Director Harry Moyal said that the stadium is proud to offer a new experience for the club’s fans.

"Uber has been present in Lyon since 2013 and it was natural for us to continue our local development by partnering with one of the most vibrant places in the region," Alexander Droulers, Uber’s general manager for Lyon.

Uber currently operates in more than 300 towns and 12 cities across France, with more than one million registered users in the country.
