Etihad Airways Launches Global Sale With Up To 40% Off On Fares

Etihad Airways has launched a global up to 40% off sale for travel worldwide that must be booked by Wednesday, 1 March for travel until Sunday, 10 December 2017.

This time the Abu Dhabi-based carrier is offering 40% off 100 destinations including Abu Dhabi, London, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, New Delhi and New York - as part of its A World Within Reach sale.

‘Robocar’: Roborace unveils its self-driving electric race car

Startup Roborace Ltd. yesterday unveiled its much anticipated self-driving race car at Mobile World Congress 2017 Mobile Conference in Barcelona.

The final version of the all-electric and self-driving racecar - “Robocar” a fully electric vehicle that can reach speeds of up to 200 miles per hour without any input from a human driver. It has been roughly six months since Roborace revealed its “Devbot” prototype, a self-driving race car that runs on Nvidia Corp.’s Drive PX 2 artificial intelligence supercomputer.

Liverpool Hires EA Chief As New CEO

Liverpool have appointed Peter Moore, the former EA Sports president and currently Electronic Arts’ chief competition officer, as the club's new chief executive officer.

Current CEO Ian Ayre will be departing his role at the end of February as he takes up a position at German second-division side 1860 Munich.

Ayre decided to depart three months ahead of schedule to become German 1860 Munich's general manager.

Xenophobic Attacks: TUC Demands Immediate Recall of High Commissioner to South Africa

The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria expressed serious concern over the ongoing xenophobic attacks against foreigners in South Africa and called for the immediate recall of the country’s High Commissioner to the country.

According to TUC, "From all indications, it appears there is a grand conspiracy by the government cum state security apparatus to continue to mindlessly waste lives and take over people's properties of innocent and harmless fellow Africans.

First and foremost their anger is misplaced and probably borne out of the inferiority complex suffered from years of oppression and apartheid. "As a credible organization we condemn crimes in all its forms and support punishment for those found culpable. But in this case no one has mentioned any case of crime; it is rather a case of a country whose freedom we staked our lives, financed and spent other resources to fight for and today we get xenophobia as returns", a statement by the Union read.

BlackBerry is BACK! Firm Unveils KEYone device

Blackberry Ltd may have exited the device business, but fans of the pioneering email machine need not despair as Chinese smartphone maker TCL Communication has introduced its first Blackberry-licensed phone with the physical keyboard that was long its key allure.

The KEYone combines a touch display with a physical keyboard to give users more useable space for typing than a typical 5.5-inch all-touch smartphone, along with BlackBerry Ltd’s security and software, TCL said.

Hollywood Actor, Bill Paxton is Dead!

Award-winning Hollywood actor Bill Paxton has died at 61 from a ‘stroke after complications from heart surgery’, according to reports.
“It is with heavy hearts we share the news that Bill Paxton has passed away due to complications from surgery,” a family representative said in a statement. “A loving husband and father, Bill began his career in Hollywood working on films in the art department and went on to have an illustrious career spanning four decades as a beloved and prolific actor and filmmaker. Bill’s passion for the arts was felt by all who knew him, and his warmth and tireless energy were undeniable. We ask to please respect the family’s wish for privacy as they mourn the loss of their adored husband and father.”

Tech Firms Partner To Expand Peering of Internet Transit Traffic Within Nigeria

MainData Nigeria (MDXi) and the Internet Exchange Point of Nigeria (IXPN) have announced a partnership aimed at expanding the peering of Internet Transit traffic within Nigeria. The partnership seeks to take advantage of the numerous networks and content providers already connected to MainOne to grow traffic in the Nigerian Internet Exchange.

Caterpillar To Open New Parts Distribution Facility in South Africa

Caterpillar Inc has announced plans to consolidate its parts distribution centers in Isando, South Africa into a new parts distribution facility near Johannesburg at about 20 kilometers (12 miles) from the existing centers.

The new facility is expected to become operational in the second quarter of 2017. The consolidation provides several advantages including enabling the company to work more efficiently, while increasing the capability to provide unmatched parts availability to customers in Africa.

Claudio Ranieri sacked by Leicester 9-months after delivering Premier League title

Claudio Ranieri, the manager who led Leicester City to one of the more implausible success stories in history, has been sacked only nine months after taking a team of 5,000-1 outsiders to the Premier League title and a football miracle.

Ranieri’s dismissal comes barely two weeks after Leicester offered him their “unwavering support” in a statement insisting there was no way his job could be in danger and pointing out that the club’s success had been “based firmly on stability, togetherness and determination to overcome even the greatest of challenges”.

Jay Z Becomes First Rapper Chosen for Songwriters Hall of Fame

In a statement by the company on Thursday, the group expressed concerns and called for calmness and restraint. According to the company, the attacks are directed against non-nationals both in South Africa and Nigeria.

Airtel Offers Relief to Abused Children in Touching Lives Episode 2

Airtel, through its Touching Lives philanthropic programme, has come to the aid of a struggling non-governmental organisation, Child Rights Brigade (CRB), whose purpose is to rescue abandoned and abused children in Lokoja, Kogi State.

In the second episode of Airtel Touching Lives season three, Esther Aniagwu, a victim of child abandonment and domestic violence, suddenly finds herself homeless, motherless, and helpless. But in an unusual lucky break, a total stranger rescues her. This Good Samaritan, Destiny Adejo, is the founder of CRB and a survivor of sexual abuse.

For three years, charity has provided a sanctuary for molested children in its community and, so far, it has helped 10 children. According to Destiny, six of these kids have become “very successful.”

NB Proposes N28 Billion Dividend Payout, Records 6.7 Per Cent Revenue Growth

The Board of Directors of Nigerian Breweries Plc has proposed a total dividend of N28, 181, 179 (Twenty eight billion, three hundred and eighty six million, one hundred and eighty one thousand, one hundred and seventy nine naira only), that is, N3.58 (three Naira fifty kobo) per ordinary share of fifty kobo each for approval by the company’s shareholders for the 2016 financial year.

In a statement filed at The Nigerian Stock Exchange, the Company said it had earlier paid an interim dividend of N7.9 billion, that is, N1.00 (one Naira only). The declared final dividend of N2.58, which is in addition to N1.00 interim dividend is a 100% earnings pay out.

Speaking on the free sampling program for the year, Brand Manager, Indomie Instant Noodles, Mr. Amber Yadav said: “Indomie is using this exercise to remind Consumers of how quality taste like. Surprise, Shock as Big Brother Cancels Nominations

  • Biggie to announce evicted housemates only to voting public

This week’s nomination show took an unexpected turn when Big Brother canceled all the nominations by the housemates, saying he would decide who would be evicted come Sunday night.

The decision came after Big Brother exposed a plot between Kemen and Marvis in a video he played on screen to the housemates. A furious Big Brother sentenced Kemen and Marvis to the isolation booth and also, withdrew Bisola and Bally’s earned advantages. Meanwhile, Big Brother had earlier in the day issued a warning to fake housemates, Jon and Ese, after he screened their conspiracy and scolded them for breaking the rules.

PayPorte Donates Millions of Naira and Food Items to Orphans in Partnership With Miyonse

The event, which took place in Lagos and tagged “PayPorte Feast of Love” fed over 300 orphans and showered many gift items to the various orphanage homes.

Goldberg Excellency Tour: Otapo Bata Drummers Emerge Winner of Cultural Contest in Abeokuta

Otapo Bata Drummers from Abeokuta have emerged winners at the traditional drummers contest at the kick-off event of the Goldberg Excellency Tour in Abeokuta on Saturday, February 18, 2017.

The group outperformed four other groups at the grand finale to cart home the coveted prize of Two Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira (N250, 000). Ayanwale Drummers clinched the second position and won One Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira (N150, 000) while Omo Aribido Drummers claimed the third spot and settled for the One Hundred Thousand Naira (N100, 000) on offer for the slot. The other two finalists, Ayandare Drummers and Paramount Band got Fifty Thousand Naira (N50, 000) each.

At the commencement of the event on Friday, February 17, 2017, 12 groups auditioned at the cultural centre, venue of the event, with five groups emerging from the pool to reach the grand finale.

#BigBrotherNaija: Gifty Takes A Bow

After 28 days, Gifty has emerged the fourth evictee from the Big Brother Naija competition putting to an end her dream of clinching the ultimate prize of 25 million naira and an SUV.

Gifty who was up for possible eviction with fellow housemates, Thin Tall Tony (TTT) and Marvis, was asked to exit the Big Brother Naija house at the live eviction show on Sunday, 19 February. Her exit was greeted with silence as she hurriedly said goodbye to the other housemates and left.

Following the announcement of her eviction, BBNaija show host, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, revealed that Gifty secured only 25.65% of the votes while Marvis and TTT had 42.27% and 32.08% respectively.
