Decade Old Story Wins GTBank’s Dusty Manuscript Contest


A manuscript written almost ten years ago has been selected as the winner of the Dusty Manuscript Contest; a Prize organized for budding Nigerian writers. Written by Kukogho Iruesiri Samson, the winning manuscript, titled Devil's Pawn clinched the top prize ahead of The Orchid Protocol by Onoche Emeka Onyekwena and The Other Side of Truth by Nneoma Anieto, which came first and second runner-up respectively.

Africa's economic growth on the rise, despite debt increase

The report, commissioned by ICAEW and produced by partner and forecaster Oxford Economics, provides a snapshot of the region's economic performance. The regions include: East Africa, Southern Africa, Central and West Africa and Franc Zone.

According to the report; East Africa's GDP growth is mainly thanks to Ethiopia whose real GDP growth of 8.1%, is forecast to result from continued public investment. The same kind of capital spending in Egypt, made possible by compliance with reforms proposed by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), will boost growth to 5.0%, making this the key driver behind the 3.9% growth in North Africa's GDP this year.

EFInA Highlights Significant Fintech Opportunities in Nigeria

Extending conversation on the promotion of financial inclusion in Nigeria, Enhancing Financial Innovation and Access (EFInA) a financial development organization funded by DFID and Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation recently organized a FinTech Breakfast forum in Lagos.

Through its Innovation Fund, EFInA targets the economically deprived population.Launched in 2009, the fund shares risks with Financial Service Providers (FSPs) by providing grant subsidies through the Technical Assistance Grant and the Innovation Grant tothe amountof $250,000 and $2,000,000 respectively. The focus areas include agent networks, electronic payment, financial inclusive products and services especially across Northern Nigeria, women and financial literacy projects.

Moroni becomes the new destination of Turkish Airlines in Africa

Turkish Airlines, flying to the most countries in the world, has added Moroni, the biggest city and the capital of Comoros Union, to its network.  Moroni flights will be operated three times per week and it will be in connection with Seychelles flights.

Egyptian government have filled the first of four African slots in FIFA's program for third-tier commercial deals with "Egypt - Experience & Invest" deal, just few hours to the kick-off of the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
