NTPIC Engages Tax Advisory Bodies as Tegbe Stresses Clear Communication and Public Trust

The National Tax Policy Implementation Committee (NTPIC) has stepped up its stakeholder engagement with a high-level consultative meeting involving leading tax advisory firms, professional bodies and institutional representatives, as efforts continue to ensure the effective implementation of Nigeria’s newly enacted tax laws.

The meeting brought together national presidents of key institutions alongside senior tax partners from advisory firms, underscoring the Committee’s drive for inclusive consultation as part of the reform process.

Addressing participants, the Chairman of the NTPIC, Mr Joseph Tegbe, said the ultimate success of the tax reforms would hinge more on effective change management than on policy design alone. He stressed the need for clear communication and the building of public trust, noting that these would be critical to achieving broad acceptance and compliance.

Tegbe reaffirmed the Committee’s commitment to sustained engagement with sub-national governments through the Joint Revenue Board and other relevant institutions, with the aim of harmonising interpretations, strengthening capacity and ensuring alignment across federal and state tax administrations.

Participants at the session broadly welcomed the reforms, describing them as timely and structural, and focused on strengthening Nigeria’s fiscal framework rather than pursuing short-term revenue gains. Discussions were framed within the Federal Government’s wider reform agenda to improve long-term fiscal sustainability, in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.

While commending the strength of the legislative framework, participants highlighted the importance of consistent interpretation across institutions and the provision of clear operational guidelines to avoid fragmented enforcement. They also called for deliberate, coordinated and simplified public education strategies that clearly explain the impact of the reforms on individuals, small businesses and corporate entities.

Participants further emphasised that implementation should reinforce principles of fairness, proportionality and national development, in order to build confidence in the reformed tax system.

In his closing remarks, Mr Tegbe thanked participants for their contributions and reiterated the Committee’s commitment to structured consultation and the prompt resolution of issues identified during the engagement.
