The Honourable Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, has inaugurated the newly constituted Governing Board of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), urging members to place the interests and welfare of ordinary Nigerians at the centre of their decisions.
The inauguration ceremony, held in Abuja, was attended by the Permanent Secretary, Board Chairman, His Excellency Mr Ayodele Fayose, REA Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, members of the Board and management of the Ministry.
Tegbe said the constitution of the new Board was in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's drive to strengthen governance and accountability across public institutions.
He described REA as an institution focused on expanding opportunities, stressing that every mini-grid, solar home system and electrified market, school, health centre or farm represents an investment in human capital and economic inclusion.

The Minister highlighted REA's existing programmes, including the Energising Education Programme, Energising Economies Programme, Energising Agriculture Programme and the Africa Mini-Grids Programme, as evidence of the Agency's contribution to the Federal Government's strategy for expanding access to electricity and supporting economic development.
He noted that the Board, constituted under Section 130 of the Electricity Act, was assuming office at a defining moment for the Agency and urged members to provide strong strategic leadership while maintaining effective oversight.
On governance, Tegbe drew a clear distinction between the Board's non-executive responsibility for strategic direction and oversight and Management's responsibility for day-to-day execution.
He explained that the Board would meet quarterly to review performance, while Management would retain operational latitude between meetings, subject to full accountability.
The Minister commended Fayose's record as a former Governor of Ekiti State and welcomed the other members of the newly constituted Board.
He assured the Board of the Ministry's continued partnership, describing electricity as an instrument of inclusion, opportunity and prosperity.
Responding on behalf of the Board, Chairman Fayose described President Tinubu's decision to appoint Tegbe as a statement of seriousness rather than a routine appointment.
He said the appointment signalled that the administration would settle for nothing less than a lasting solution to Nigeria's power problem.
Fayose described the Minister as a technocrat whose technical depth and managerial competence had already produced a positive turning point for the sector.
He affirmed that REA's leadership was proud to work with Tegbe in advancing efforts to address Nigeria's electricity challenges and improve access to power for underserved communities.
