Google has partnered with UpSkill Universe to relaunch its Hustle Academy, expanding the free training programme to offer practical artificial intelligence skills to individuals and entrepreneurs across Africa.
The redesigned initiative marks a shift from its earlier focus on business owners to a broader audience, opening access for employees, students, and jobseekers seeking to develop AI capabilities and improve their career prospects.
Small businesses remain central to Africa’s economy, accounting for more than 80 per cent of jobs on the continent. Since its launch in 2022, the Hustle Academy has provided bootcamp-style training in business strategy, digital skills, AI and leadership, reaching more than 18,000 small and medium-sized enterprises. Many participants have reported growth in revenue and job creation.
The 2026 edition reflects the growing influence of AI on the global workforce. The updated programme introduces a flexible learning format, combining short 60-minute webinars with more intensive bootcamps designed to deliver immediate, practical application. Training will focus on areas such as digital commerce, marketing, and growth strategy.

The programme continues to play a role in strengthening digital competitiveness across emerging African economies by helping businesses move from basic awareness of AI to practical implementation, positioning them for long-term growth in an increasingly technology-driven environment.
