Canon launches coral reef conservation project in East Africa with new video initiative

Canon Central and East Africa has expanded its Coral Conservation initiative, unveiling a new video that highlights efforts to protect and restore fragile coral reef ecosystems along Kenya’s coastline.

Beneath the waters of East Africa, coral reefs remain both rich in biodiversity and increasingly at risk, as global reef systems continue to decline at an alarming rate. Canon’s latest project seeks to draw attention to this environmental challenge by using imaging technology to document reef conditions, raise awareness and support conservation action.

Working in partnership with Kenya’s Oceans Alive Foundation, the initiative focuses on coral reef restoration, environmental monitoring and community-led conservation programmes. The project uses advanced imaging tools to capture the health of marine ecosystems, support scientific research and strengthen educational outreach aimed at local communities.

The newly released video showcases how visual storytelling can play a role in conservation, helping to make largely unseen underwater ecosystems more visible and better understood.

Canon says the initiative reflects its broader commitment to sustainability, responsible innovation and community engagement across Africa, while demonstrating how technology and partnerships can contribute to practical environmental solutions.
