LIRS Extends Deadline for Employers’ Annual Tax Returns to February 7

The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) has extended the deadline for the filing of employers’ annual tax returns by one week, shifting the date from February 1 to February 7, 2026.

The extension was announced in a statement issued on Friday by the Executive Chairman of LIRS, Dr Ayodele Subair. He explained that the statutory deadline for filing employers’ annual tax returns is January 31 each year, adding that the additional time was granted to enable employers to complete and submit accurate returns.

Dr Subair stressed the importance of timely compliance, noting that employers must make the filing of annual tax returns a routine part of their business operations.

He also reiterated that electronic filing via the LIRS eTax platform remains the only approved channel for submitting annual returns, as manual submissions have been completely discontinued.

According to him, the eTax platform is secure, user-friendly and accessible at all times, and employers are required to ensure that the Tax Identification Number of every employee is correctly captured in their filings.

The LIRS urged employers across Lagos State to take advantage of the extended deadline to comply fully with their statutory obligations and avoid penalties associated with late or inaccurate submissions.
