JMG Limited, a leading provider of integrated electromechanical solutions in Nigeria, has taken its commitment to sustainability to the heart of Gbagada, Lagos, as part of activities marking World Clean-Up Day 2025. On September 20, the company’s top executives and staff set aside their formal suits for gloves and waste bags, rolling up their sleeves to clear plastics and solid waste from the community where JMG’s largest workforce operates.
The exercise was not just about sanitation. It aimed to inspire residents and employees to embrace recycling, sort their waste properly, and take collective responsibility for creating a cleaner, healthier environment. This year’s World Clean-Up Day, themed “Textile and Fashion Waste”, spotlighted the growing global challenge of textile pollution, which generates over 92 million tons of waste annually, straining waste systems, polluting waterways, and accelerating the climate crisis.
According to the Group General Manager of JMG Limited, Rabi Jammal, “JMG champions environmental preservation and has taken the responsibility of clearing waste in its community as one of its core values built around safeguarding the environment, as enshrined in the ethics of World Clean-up Day,” he said. Jammal also highlighted that sustainability is embedded in the company’s ISO certification and clean energy practices, such as the installation of solar power at its headquarters to cut harmful carbon emissions.
JMG’s Quality, Health, Safety, and Environment Manager, Benedict Odamah, noted that the initiative was designed to instill a culture of responsibility within the organisation. “The scheme encourages our personnel to take an active role in cleaning the environment, eliminating waste, and promoting awareness on proper disposal and recycling. It is also about enlightening the host community on sustainability and putting JMG at the forefront of ecological conservation,” he said.
Odamah added that JMG’s clean energy practices, such as installing solar systems across its business operations and operating a waste segregation hub for recycling, demonstrate the company’s broader commitment to reducing its carbon footprint.
Marketing Executive, Goke Atiba, emphasized JMG’s pride in giving back to the community, citing its donation of solar panels and inverters to Primary Healthcare Centres across Lagos State.
For residents, the gesture resonated deeply. Kayode Adebayo, a member of the Gbagada community, said: “Seeing JMG roll up its sleeves to clean the environment where they do business shows they genuinely care about our environment and our wellbeing. It gives us hope that together we can make a real difference.”
