Meta Launches AI-Powered Video Editing Tool for Creative Storytelling

Meta has introduced a new generative AI video editing feature, now available in the Meta AI app, on the Meta.AI website, and in the Edits app. This feature allows users to apply preset AI prompts to transform short-form videos, changing outfits, locations, lighting, and more, before sharing them directly to platforms like Facebook, Instagram, or Meta’s Discover feed.

Inspired by the company’s Movie Gen models, this launch marks Meta’s first step toward full-scale AI video generation and editing across its platforms. Later this year, users will be able to guide their edits with custom text prompts, offering even more creative control.

The tool is designed to be intuitive and accessible, enabling anyone to make high-quality video edits without technical experience. Users can upload a video and choose from more than 50 prompts to modify a 10-second clip—for free, for a limited time. Prompts range from turning a clip into a graphic novel-style animation to enhancing a cloudy day with dreamy lighting effects or transforming a scene into a vibrant video game.

“We built this feature so that everyone can experiment creatively and make fun, interesting videos to share with their friends, family, and followers,” Meta explained. “Whether you’re reimagining a favourite family memory or finding new ways to entertain your audience, our video editing feature can help.”

To inform development, Meta worked with creators to identify the most appealing prompts and integrated the editing feature directly into the Edits app for a smoother creative workflow.

The launch is part of Meta’s broader investment in AI media generation. It builds on earlier innovations like the Make-A-Scene models, diffusion-based image tools, and the development of the Movie Gen model. These advancements have allowed Meta to progress from basic AI-generated visuals to sophisticated tools for video, image, audio, and 3D animation editing.

With this new feature, Meta aims to empower users to express themselves, connect with others, and unlock new forms of creativity through AI-enhanced video content.
