Grammy award-winning Burna Boy becomes first African to sell out Madison Square Garden

Nigerian Grammy award musician, Burna Boy became the first African to sell out Madison Square Garden, New York with his performance early this morning (WAT).

Burna Boy, real name Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, just ended his "One Night in Space" concert in the early hours of the morning (WAT), and it was webcast live if you missed it. It was completely sold out. As a result, he has joined the ranks of singers such as Justin Bieber in selling out the 20,789-seat arena.

Burna Boy, at 30, became the first Nigerian solo artist to win a Grammy in 2021. For his 2020 album "Twice as Tall," the two-time Grammy nominee earned the award for Best Global Music Album.  And would you believe it, he put the album together during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Also in 2021, he sold out the 20,000 capacity O2 arena in UK. In November 2019, Burna Boy became the first Afrobeat artist to sell out the SSE Arena (formerly known as the Wembley arena). You can watch his “One Night in Space” performance below on YouTube.

At the concert he disclosed that he would be dropping his next album on his birthday, the 2nd of June this year. Titled, “Love Damini”, it will feature Ed Sheeran and WizKid.
