Uber Appoints Ex-Google Executive as VP of Global Marketing

In what seems to be the culmination of departmental upheaval and leadership overhauls, ex-Google marketer Thomas Ranese has been picked up by Uber to serve as VP of global marketing.

According to Uber, Thomas will be responsible for marketing the products and businesses around the world, as well as leading our brand, creative, research and regional marketing teams.

Thomas has spent the last 10 years working at Google, reporting directly to Google’s CMO—first as head of global strategy and operations, then as founder of Google’s Brand Studio, and most recently as the head of Google’s hardware efforts, where he launched the Pixel and rebranded Google Nest.

Prior to a decade at Google, he served as chief marketing officer of New York State where he had a hand in re-launching the noted “I Love NY” campaign.
