Chiwetel Ejiofor, Beyonce, Others star in 'The Lion King' Reboot

Remember ‘Lion King?’  The 1994 American animated epic musical film produced by Walt Disney that went ahead to become the highest-grossing release of 1994 and stands as the second highest-grossing film of all time.

The film which is also the highest-grossing traditionally animated film of all time is making a return to the big screens with a reboot featuring a host of A-list stars and celebrities.

Of note, sparking excitement on Twitter was the announcement of the casting of American singer, Beyonce who will play Nala opposite the already-announced Donald Glover as Simba. James Earl Jones will reprise his role as Mufasa and Chiwetel Ejiofor will voice the villain Scar. The rest of the cast includes comedians John Oliver, Seth Rogen, and Billy Eichner.

Beyonce on Wednesday  announced her involvement in the remake on Facebook.

The Disney upcoming remake of The Lion King will be directed by The Jungle Book’s Jon Favreau and the adaptation of the 1994 animated classic will be in the same style as Favreau’s previous hit reboot, The Jungle Book, as a live-action film.

It is worth noting that there have been successful reboots for ‘Jungle Book’ and ‘Beauty and the Beast’ and it is widely expected that The Lion King will follow suit.

The Lion King” tells the story of a young lion whose father is the lion king until an evil uncle plots to dethrone him. As an adult, Simba returns in an attempt to take back the throne.

‘The Lion King’ will be in theaters in July 2019.
