Skype Redesigned for Android, iPhone and iPad

Microsoft has introduced major new versions of Skype for Android, iPhone and iPad. Skype 6.0 provides improved navigation and enhanced search on both platform, plus a more modern and native look and feel.

The redesigned iPhone and iPad app includes improved navigation that helps users get to their conversations faster, according to Skype, including swipe gestures for making calls and for message management. Also simplified and improved are procedures for sharing photos, Web links, emoticons and the user's location while on a voice or video call.

We have been publishing frequent updates to Skype for Android, adding new features such as custom ringtones, photo sharing, and web link previews. With Skype 6.0 for Android we’re making the following big improvements:

Redesigned for Android – Inspired by material design, we’ve made Skype even easier to use on Android phones.  It’s simple, elegant, and delightful!

Floating action button – The floating action button makes it incredibly simple to start a new conversation, whether you’re starting a video call, audio call, chat, or sending a video message.

Enhanced search – With an upgraded search you can now find your most important contacts and conversations much faster.

Improved messaging – It’s now quicker to see how many unread messages you have as we’ve made it easier to identify what you’ve read and what you haven’t.
