Report: Adidas making $200 million bid to woo James Harden

Adidas is trying to woo Rockets guard James Harden away from Nike by offered $200 million over 13 years, sources told ESPN.com. Harden’s Nike deal recently expired, but the company has until the end of next week to match the deal.

With Bulls guard Derrick Rose, Trailblazers guard Damian Lillard and Wizards guard John Wall on its roster, Adidas has some of the top guards in the NBA wearing and promoting its sneakers.

Adidas chose to pursue Harden to try to regain the No. 2 apparel brand spot in the United States after being surpassed by Under Armor last year.

According to reports, Shoe business has skyrocketed in recent years, but Adidas hasn’t reaped the fruit of the upswing. Nike along with the Jordan brand make up 90 percent of basketball shoes sold in the U.S. Adidas has less than 5 percent of the market share.
