Entries For Maltina Teacher-of-The-Year Close this Week

Teachers across Nigeria have up till Friday, July 24, 2015 to submit their entries for Maltina Teacher of the Year initiative. This is coming as the three weeks extension of the deadline for submission of entries for the innovative awards ends on Friday.

It will be recalled that the organizers of the initiative extended the deadline for submission of entries for the initiative in response to widespread appeal by secondary school teachers from across the country who pleaded for more time to enable them file their entries for the coveted prize worth over N50 million.

According to Vindah Edem, Corporate Communications Manager of Nigerian Breweries Plc. - sponsors of the initiative on behalf of Nigerian Breweries-Felix Ohiwerei Education Trust Fund, “interested candidates who are yet to submit their entries should take the advantage of the extension to obtain hard copies of entry forms from designated collection and submission points scattered all over the country as contained in flyers, posters and other below-the-line (BTL) advertising materials being circulated across the country”.

He added that interested teachers can download the application forms from the Maltina website, www.maltina-nigeria.com and upload to the site or return via the company’s post office mail box at P.M.B. 12632, Marina, Lagos. Also, she enjoined teachers who have issues with collection and submission of forms to seek assistance either by sending email to maltinateacheroftheyear@heineken.com or call 01-2717419 for further enquiries.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) has commended the company for initiating the project. According to the union, Maltina Teacher of the Year will not only help in improving teaching conditions and the education sector generally, it will go a long way in restoring the pride of teachers and the dignity of the teaching profession in the country.

The union which announced its endorsement of Maltina as its official drink at all occasions during the flag off ceremony of the Maltina Teacher of the Year initiative in Lagos recently, reiterated its commitment to the success of the social investment project.

In related development, the Federal Ministry of Education has commended Nigerian Breweries Plc., for introducing Maltina Teacher of Year initiative, a reward programme that seeks to recognise, reward and train Nigerian teachers.

Speaking during a visit by Nigerian Breweries Management team led by Mr. Kufre Ekanem, the Corporate Affairs Adviser to the Ministry at the weekend, Dr. MacJohn Nwaobiala, Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Education, said that the Ministry of Education is happy with Nigerian Breweries Plc. for flagging off such a laudable project at this time in the nation’s history.
