5 Nigerian Writers to Follow on Twitter


Earlier this year, @Time Magazine named Nigerian political activist and writer Obiageli Ezekwesili (@obyzeks) as one of the 100 most influential people in the world.  Her activism and writing has gotten her worldwide renown and accolades. With her 310,000 followers on Twitter, she is constantly reaching out to them, advocating for various campaigns and speaking on current affairs.

Nigeria’s literary best and brightest have nurtured their talents across a number of subjects, such as politics, literature, sports, and many others. 

Aspiring writers can receive their inspiration and express themselves a number of ways - they can look to become journalists, start online blogs, write mini stories on Twitter, provide livestream updates and commentary on funny subjects, or even tweet about relevant events in real time.  Some of Nigeria’s key writers on Twitter have been able to set themselves apart by writing relatable content around subjects that they personally found to be interesting.

Tolu Ogunlesi (@ToluOgunlesi) a well-known Nigerian journalist, writes on a number of areas.  His treatises on politics, journalism, and philosophy are keenly followed by his 132,000 followers.  His work has been published in different magazines, newspapers, and journals all over the world and recently won the CNN African Journalist of the year 2013.

Feyi Fawehinmi (@DoubleEph) is one of Nigeria’s most prolific commentators.  His 148,000 followers are often treated to his opinions on a range of topics, including breaking news, sports, and politics. 


JJ Omojuwa (@Omojuwa) shares his thoughts on politics and economic developments with his 228,000 followers. He is known to be the one of the young voices in Nigeria that drives social change through social media His views on socio-political matters has earned him spots on many discussion panels across the nation, and the globe.  

Kayode Ogundamisi (@Ogundamisi) is a commentator on Nigerian and International affairs with constant support and adoration from his 126,000 followers on Twitter. He is known for his ability to write for major Nigerian Media outlets and for his active nature on social media.
