Hackers breached the computers of the U.S. government agency that collects personnel information for federal workers in a massive cyber attack that compromised the data of about 4 million current and former employees, according to the U.S. officials.
Officials said Chinese hackers are suspected of carrying out a "massive breach" of the personal data of nearly four million US government workers.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation is reported to have launched a probe and aimed to bring to account those responsible.
In the past year, a growing number of government agencies and companies - most notoriously Sony Pictures - have fallen victim to such attacks.
