The march ended at the State House at Alausa, Ikeja, where they were addressed by the Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola.
Speaking at the gathering, Nollywood veteran Tunde Kelani said the industry is witnessing a different level of piracy.
According to him, films produced in Nigeria are pirated, released and sold on the streets of Lagos while still showing in cinemas. “This is destroying lives, property, business and the industry as a whole" - He said.
Kunle Afolayan, whose recently pirated movie led to the march, narrated his unpleasant experience to the governor.
The governor promised them the assistance of the government in battling the global phenomenon.
“Piracy is a global phenomenon, not just a Nigerian problem but what has been done in other climes is that they have been able to reduce it to the barest minimum.
“Perhaps, more defining is that we should not leave the business of lawmaking to lawmakers alone." - He said.
When some Kannywood delegates paid president-elect Muhammadu Buhari a congratulatory visit in his home at Daura, Katsina State, recently, they also pleaded to him to help look into the issue.
The General promised that his government will look into film piracy. "I appreciate all that you have done; the beautiful campaign songs, the video jingles and the drama awareness on our party’s manifestos. They were all beautiful and I thank you”, Buhari said.
Ali Nuhu, Falalu Dorayi, Hadizan Saima,Dauda Kahutu Rarara, Rabiu Daushe, Jamila Nagudu,Yahanasu Sani, Hamisu Lamido, Mustapha Naburaska, Abubakar Maikwai, Tijjani Asase and Baballe Hayatu were among the Kannywood members that visited him.
