Atletico Madrid drives on with Volkswagen

Spanish Liga champion Atletico Madrid has struck a new deal with German automotive giant Volkswagen which will see the duo work together for a further year in the 2015-16 football season.

Volkswagen sits on the second tier of Atletico partners alongside Huawei, Mahou, La Caixa and Coca-Cola. It's been fourth year of their collaboration.

During the agreement renewal event between both entities that has been held at Atlético de Madrid's Sports City in Majadahonda, Atlético de Madrid's chairman, Enrique Cerezo highlighted that “in Atlético de Madrid we've always wanted to be with the best, that is why we're here today with Volkswagen announcing our sponsorship renewal.” For her part, Laura Ros, Volkswagen's Director, said that “we share with Atlético de Madrid the teamwork, self-improvement and effort capacity, which has made us leaders of the Spanish automotive market for the last three years and the first semester of 2015.”

As Atletico prepares for the second leg of its Uefa Champions League quarter-final against Real Madrid, the two parties are currently engaged in a promotion for Volkswagen’s Passat model.

Volkswagen became Atlético Madrid sponsor after Korean car manufacturer KIA decided to end their contract with the club upon the conclusion of the 2010/11 season.
