After appearing on the epic season finale of the hit TV series 'Empire', Snoop Dogg is on the way to building his own TV contender.

While giving a keynote speech at SXSW festival, Snoop Dogg officially announced that he will exec produce a drama about 1980s Los Angeles.

The rapper will team up with writer Rodney Barnes and director Allen Hughes for the still untitled series.

Snoop Dogg, whose real name is Calvin Broadus Jr, said, "HBO is the number one network in the world as far as developing and having these types of shows come to life."

The rapper added, "This is a dream come true to be able to tell a story that's going to be told the right way on the right network."

The untitled series will focus on a family who find their lives disrupted when their community and American politics come into conflict.

Apart from the series, the rapper will also come out with a new album. "Bush" is scheduled to hit stores in May.
