Nokia’s HERE mapping app is back on iOS

After more than a year-long absence, Nokia's HERE mapping and navigation app is back up for download on iOS, complete with offline caching, traffic information, public transit data and more.

Nokia pulled HERE from the iOS App Store in December 2013, saying at the time that changes introduced in Apple's iOS 7 "harm the user experience."

According to Nokia, HERE for iOS is a "completely different app" than the old HTML5 version. The company says its app has been reworked from the ground up, with code optimized specifically for Apple's mobile operating system.

After launching its HERE mapping app for Android devices back in October 2014 with 4million downloads, Nokia finally relaunches its HERE maps and navigation app for iOS yesterday (March 11th). The app has always been a true Google Maps and Apple Maps competitor.



In April 2014, Microsoft bought Nokia’s devices and services business, with HERE remaining part of the company left behind in Finland as an independent entity.

HERE comes in at 60.4MB and can be downloaded for free from the iOS App Store. It comes with voice-guided turn-by-turn navigation for 118 countries, real-time traffic and incident information for more than 40 countries, and public transit maps and schedules for some 900 cities around the world.
