Fun Lovers Look Forward to the Lagos Water Regatta

The much awaited Lagos Water Regatta that converges Lagosians home and abroad is billed to hold on Sunday, April 19, 2015 at the Regatta Village, Oyinkan Abayomi Drive, Ikoyi Lagos with the theme “Celebrating the Aquatic Splendor of Lagos”.

The Regatta, which is in its sixth edition, will feature a parade of boats and yachts, including large fishing boats, ferries, barges and other marine vessels that are beautifully adorned. The fun filled water-based event depicts the social-cultural, traditional folklores and occupational aspects of the people of Lagos State.

Speaking in a media chat with the Chairman, Organizing Committee, Lagos Water Regatta, Engr. Olusegun Jawando MFR, he revealed that in addition to the colorful array of decorated floats there will be a display of the unique nature of Lagos State as the melting pot of Nigeria – a feature that has created a colorful and radiant Mosaic reflected in our hospitality, creativity & innovation, commerce and optimistic nature.

He further added that this edition is the valedictory edition for its initiator HE Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola and will be more electrifying than the last with performances and appearances of A-list musicians, comedians and entertainment acts. In addition, there will be a chorale group accompanied by a spectacular fireworks display.


The Regatta Village will feature a Children’s Fun Park and a General section. The parade of aquatic vessels will feature boat clubs, local communities, corporate organizations as well as various other enthusiasts of water sports and aquatic activities. The Regatta will also feature jet skis displays, canoe races that will encompass all the local governments in Lagos and neighboring riverine states as well as international open water swimming races and kayak racing competitions, he added.
