Former France international David Ginola launched a bid for the Fifa presidency on Friday, assuming the role of the "fans champion" under the slogan of "rebooting football".
Ginola, who has until January 29 to prove he has the backing of five football associations before his bid can be officially accepted by FIFA, is seeking the support of fans around the world to help get him on the ballot and to ultimately mount a successful election campaign.
The 47-year-old, becomes the fourth candidate to come forward. Prince Ali bin Al Hussein, a Jordanian who has been a Fifa vice-president for Asia since 2011, this month became the third individual to announce an intention to secure the presidency of world football’s governing body for the next four years at the May 29 election, following Swiss incumbent Sepp Blatter and Ginola’s fellow French challenger Jerome Champagne.
The former Tottenham Hotspur player has pledged to open doors and making the football governing body transparent.
Ginola’s campaign is reportedly being backed by Paddy Power and Twitter-based campaigner changeFIFA. Whether Ginola's FIFA campaign which is speculated to be just a PR stunt from Paddy Power - is truly a serious bid, only time will tell.
