Portland Paints Vs Berger Paints: Competition Gets Stiffer As Both Extend Brand Equity

Barely a week after one of its major competitors, Berger paints launched a Colour Centre in Lagos, Portland Paints and Products Nigeria Plc, a subsidiary of UAC, also launched another colour boutique customer service and sales outlet in Ajah, Lagos.

According to both companies, the aim of unveiling the new outlets is to give their existing and prospective customers opportunity to have easier access to their products.

The competition between both paints brands have been for many years and many customers believes the launching of the new outlets is a marketing approach that would instigate development in the painting industry and also improve the brands equity.

In a statement on Thursday, Portland Paints said part of the exercise was aimed at increasing the number of retail outlets across the country to reach more customers. It added that the new Ajah outlet had extended the number of Sandtex Paints outlets to 27 in Nigeria.

The Head of Sales and Marketing for the Portland Paints, Mr. Bukola Adelabu, who unveiled the outlet, according to the statement, explained that the colour boutique was a one-stop shop for Crown Trade Paints, a brand of Crown Paints (the United Kingdom’s largest paint manufacturer).

He also noted that the new outlet would give more customers who desired colourful walls in their buildings the opportunity to personalise their colours by choosing from over 15,000 colours. Customers, he added, could also mix
their preferred colours in minutes and have access to free colour consultation.
