Allianz acquires stake in Bayern as stadium deal is extended

Insurance company Allianz has snap up 8.33-per-cent stake in Bayern Munich as part of a deal to extend its naming rights agreement for the German Bundesliga top-tier football club’s stadium until 2041, SportBusiness reports.

Allianz said that the €110m ($150m) investment would help the club to pay down remaining debt on its stadium, leaving the venue “debt free,” and would also be used to support the reconstruction of the club’s youth and junior facility.

Allianz has been the naming rights sponsor of Bayern’s Allianz Arena since the state-of-the-art stadium opened in 2005.
