2014 Rolex Award For Enterprise: Entries Open Until May 31

Legendary watches brand, Rolex is inviting young innovators from across the world to apply for the 2014 Rolex Awards for Enterprise. Between aged 18-30 are urged to submit their new or ongoing projects focused on delivering profound positive change to the world around.

The Rolex Awards for Enterprise was introduced back in 1976, but the first set of awards for younger visionaries and activists was introduced just four years ago, in 2009.

The Rolex Awards for Enterprise support pioneering work in five areas: applied technology, cultural heritage, environment, exploration and discovery, and science and health. Projects are assessed on their originality, potential for impact, feasibility, and, above all, on the candidates own spirit of enterprise.

According to the company entries closes May 31, this year. However, initiatives in other fields might also be accepted for the competition if they have a big potential.

Applicants are invited to show how they will use a Rolex Award to leverage the impact of their projects to benefit mankind. Each winner will be awarded by Rolex with grants of 50,000 Swiss francs and a Rolex chronometer. It however include a condition that the grants must be used to complete projects rather than for personal expenses.

Some the past winners from Africa include: Ikegwuonu Nnaemeka (2010, Nigeria), Rodwell Lindy (2002, South Africa), Chuwa Sebastian (2002, Tanzania), Abba Mohammed Bah (2000, Nigeria), Diagne Tomas (1998, Senegal) and many others.
