MTV Base Hits One Million Fans on Facebook

Music television channel, MTV Base (DStv Channel 322) has break a new ground having hit 1,000,000 fans on its Facebook page. On 22 March 2013, MTV Base's Facebook page becomes what could be called the biggest music community on Facebook in Africa.

As a result of its mix of entertainment news, interactivity, aspirational imagery and programme content, the channel has continued to record about 300 000 reach weekly and an average of about 500 new Fans every day.

MTV Base is also a huge hit in the Twitterverse, having notched up 133,000 followers and gaining an average of 400 new followers every day.

The music television channel reaches 48.5 million African viewers in 10.5 million households in 48 countries in sub-Saharan Africa. Targeted at mass African youth, MTV base is MTV's first bespoke channel for the African market and features the continent's broadest mix of contemporary artists and music genres. Launched on 22 February 2005, MTV base combines African and international music genres relevant to young African viewers including R'n'B, dancehall, hip-hop, kwaito, hip life, reggae, zouk, m'balax and Afrobeat, celebrating the cultural vibrancy and creativity of African music and artists.
