MTN Lagos Fashion and Design Week Set to Hold

In recognition of the abundance of creativity and business potential in the Nigerian fashion and design industry, Style House, in association with Lagos State, has partnered with telecoms giant, MTN to launch the MTN Lagos Fashion & Design Week 2011 (MTN LFDW 2011).

The Expo Centre at the Eko Hotel in Victoria Island, Lagos will be enliven with fashion creativity from the 26th to 29th of October 2011.


The initiative is designed to create a platform for Nigeria’s innovative designers and entrepreneurs to present their work before a focused target audience – a vital tool for the creative development of the industry and its positioning in the Nigerian economy, will target an audience of young, socially conscious and upwardly mobile members of the society. Individuals from the fashion industry such as designers, models, stylists, photographers and make up artists, are also expected to attend.

The 4-day event will showcase carefully selected, the best in Fashion & Design with exhibitions during the day, and runway shows in the evening. Designers like Odio Mimonet, Lanre Da Silva, Ituen Basi, Maki Oh, Grey Bridget Awosika, Kelechi Odu, Jewel by Lisa, Anita Quansah, Sunny Rose and more, will show their Collections while potential exhibitors include Nike Art Gallery, Kelechi Amadi Obi, Banke Kuku, Urban Living, Colours in Africa, Nail Room and lots more. MTN LFDW Exhibition: open 10am daily, while MTN LFDW Catwalk shows starts in the evening.
After a successful screening process in Lagos, Port Harcourt and Abuja for Young Models and Designers, MTN LFDW Awards 2011, supported by Vlisco Real Dutch Wax, will present the 12 finalists in each category before fashion cognoscenti, judges and press in search of MTN British Council Young Creative Entrepreneur of the Year, MTN British Council Young Designer of the Year and MTN Model of the Year. The winners will go home with MTN cash Prize of N1, 000,000 and a Brand New Hyundai Jeep respectively.

Research In Motion, the company behind the BlackBerry solution, will be supporting the MTN LFDW as the Technology sponsor. The company believes that MTN LFDW can play an invaluable role in encouraging and developing excellence in the African Fashion Industry. Many Africans are entering the world of digital communications, thanks to mobile connectivity. The BlackBerry solution has opened up new possibilities for consumers and small businesses by giving them access to instant messaging, mobile banking, email, media downloads and many other powerful applications to communicate fashion trends.

An exclusive MTN LFDW after party will be hosted by Blackberry in collaboration with Veuve Clicquot and restaurant du jour, Medici on October 29th 2011. Veuve Clicquot’s eponymous Yellow Label champagne is one of the world’s most beloved champagnes, and has been since the establishment of the champagne house in 1772.
