7th World Media Summit Opens in Beijing with Focus on AI and Global Media Cooperation

The 7th World Media Summit has officially opened in Beijing, China, bringing together nearly 500 representatives from international media organisations, think tanks, government institutions and global bodies to discuss the future of journalism and media cooperation in the age of artificial intelligence.

The opening ceremony took place on Saturday under the theme, "Media in the Intelligent Age: From Consensus to Action."

Jointly organised by Xinhua News Agency and the Beijing municipal government, this year's summit runs from Thursday to Monday, attracting participants from nearly 330 mainstream media outlets, think tanks and government bodies across 112 countries and regions. Representatives of the United Nations and other international organisations are also attending.

Li Shulei, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, delivered a keynote speech at the opening ceremony.

Initiated in 2009, the World Media Summit has grown into a major international platform for media exchange, dialogue and cooperation, providing opportunities for media organisations and other stakeholders to address emerging challenges and developments in the global media landscape.

The previous edition of the summit was held in Urumqi, capital of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, in 2024.
