Cutix Plc, one of West Africa’s leading cable manufacturers, is strengthening efforts to improve electrical safety and combat the proliferation of substandard cables in Nigeria through innovative technologies designed to protect lives, property and critical infrastructure.
The company is driving higher manufacturing standards across the region with a focus on reducing the dangers associated with poor-quality electrical cables, a longstanding contributor to fire outbreaks in homes, offices and commercial facilities.
At the centre of its safety initiatives is the incorporation of Halogen-Free Flame Retardant (HFFR) insulation technology in its cable manufacturing processes.
According to the company, cables produced with HFFR insulation help minimise the risk of fire outbreaks, particularly in residential and office buildings when premises are unattended.
Some cables available in the market contain highly flammable additives and lead-based stabilisers within their insulation materials, increasing both fire risks and potential health hazards linked to lead exposure. In contrast, Cutix said its HFFR insulation technology is engineered to deprive active flames of combustible fuel, enabling self-extinguishing properties within zero to one second while limiting flame spread to 250 millimetres.
The company said its fire prevention innovations extend beyond HFFR technology to include other insulation materials and polyvinyl chloride compounds such as HWPE, XLPE, LXZH, EPR, LSZH and PE, all designed to prevent the escalation of fire incidents.
Operating with a strong emphasis on manufacturing integrity, Cutix has received several local and international recognitions over the years. These include being named among Africa’s Fastest Growing Companies by the Financial Times and Statista, the Corporate Brand of the Year 2026 Award, recognition by the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria for adopting International Sustainability Standards Board standards, and the Nigerian Social Insurance Trust Fund Employee Compensation Award in 2025.

Beyond fire-resistant technology, the company also maintains a heat-treatment process known as annealing. The engineering process ensures pure copper conductors remain flexible and elastic, facilitating easier installation and reducing the likelihood of conductor breakage when cables are pulled through tight conduits or when outer insulation is removed during installation.
An electrician and cable retailer based in Agbor, Delta State, John Arimokwu Onyeoghani, shared his experience with the brand.
“As an electrician, I can confidently say that Cutix cables are the best in the market. The company said it also strictly adheres to conductor diameter specifications required for safety and regulatory compliance, including a 1.78mm diameter for 2.5mm² cables and a 2.25mm diameter for 4.0mm² cables, ensuring they can safely carry their designated electrical current loads without overheating.
