NIMC launches WhatsApp and live chat support for NIN services in Nigeria

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has introduced new WhatsApp and live chat support channels aimed at providing Nigerians with faster and more accessible assistance for National Identification Number (NIN) services.

The Commission announced that users can now access real-time support through the live chat feature on its official website and via WhatsApp on +234 701 566 6971. The initiative is expected to help citizens resolve NIN-related issues without visiting physical enrolment centres.

According to NIMC, the digital support channels are designed to provide prompt responses, verified information and guidance on common concerns, including enrolment status, data modification requests, verification challenges and other NIN-related enquiries.

For many Nigerians, accessing NIN support has often involved long queues, repeated visits to enrolment centres and extended waiting periods for simple requests. The introduction of the digital support tools marks another step in the Commission’s efforts to modernise identity services and improve public access.

The importance of the National Identification Number has increased significantly in recent years as it became mandatory for SIM registration, banking services, government programmes and identity verification across both public and private sectors.

As a result, the NIN has emerged as one of Nigeria’s most important digital identity infrastructures, linking millions of citizens to financial institutions, telecommunications providers and government systems.

NIMC said the rollout of the new support channels aligns with its broader digital transformation strategy under Director-General Abisoye Coker-Odusote.
