Meta has quietly rolled out a new standalone application called Forum, a Reddit-style platform designed to enhance Facebook Groups and encourage deeper, more organised community conversations.
The new app, which is linked directly to Facebook accounts, is aimed at users seeking more focused discussions, question-and-answer interactions and community-driven engagement. Meta describes Forum as a platform built for “deeper discussions, real answers and communities you care about.”
Once users sign in, Forum automatically imports their Facebook groups, profile information and existing activity, allowing them to continue conversations seamlessly across both platforms.
Users can create posts using nicknames, similar to features available on Facebook, while their contributions are still distributed within their respective Facebook Groups. Meta said Forum is not intended to replace Facebook Groups but instead provides an additional interface for interacting with communities.
The app is structured around group-based feeds and focuses on surfacing “what real people are saying, not just what’s trending”, while also enabling users to pick up conversations where they previously stopped.
One of Forum’s standout features is an AI-powered “Ask” tab, which allows users to submit questions and receive aggregated answers drawn from discussions across multiple groups.
Meta has also introduced an AI assistant for group administrators to help moderate conversations, manage content and simplify day-to-day community management.
The AI integrations reflect Meta’s wider strategy of embedding generative AI tools across its social media ecosystem and digital products.
Forum is among several standalone applications recently introduced by Meta. It follows the launch of Instants, another app focused on sharing disappearing photos with Instagram friends.
The company’s latest product direction signals a broader shift towards creating multiple lightweight, purpose-driven apps instead of relying solely on its flagship platforms such as Facebook and Instagram.
According to internal comments reported by The Wall Street Journal, Meta chief executive Mark Zuckerberg has indicated the company could eventually build dozens of new applications using AI-driven development tools and efficiencies.
Despite Meta’s aggressive expansion into standalone applications, questions remain over whether users are willing to adopt more niche apps, particularly when many replicate features already available on rival platforms.
