LG Electronics launches free health insurance cover for Nigerian air conditioner buyers

LG Electronics has expanded its consumer health protection initiative in Nigeria by introducing free comprehensive health insurance for customers who purchase selected air conditioner models.

The move marks a major expansion of the company’s earlier malaria-focused insurance programme, which was introduced in response to Nigeria accounting for about 26 per cent of global malaria cases. Through a partnership with AXA Mansard Health, the initiative has now evolved into a broader healthcare support scheme aimed at improving access to basic medical care for Nigerian households.

Under the new arrangement, eligible buyers of selected LG air conditioners will receive free comprehensive insurance coverage for a range of common health conditions.

The AXA Mansard-backed plan includes treatment for malaria, uncomplicated typhoid and other acute febrile illnesses. It also covers respiratory conditions such as upper respiratory tract infections, mild cough and mild bronchial asthma.

In addition, the insurance package extends to gastrointestinal and parasitic illnesses including diarrhoea, dysentery, abdominal colic and worm infections. Beneficiaries are also covered for skin and eye infections, dermatitis, bruises, lacerations and other soft tissue conditions, as well as musculoskeletal pain, urinary tract infections, pelvic inflammatory disease and other uncomplicated bacterial, fungal, parasitic and viral infections.

“This initiative reflects our understanding of what truly matters to Nigerian consumers beyond the products they purchase,” said Mr Joonkyu Song, General Manager, Eco Solutions Division, LG Electronics Nigeria.

“We began by addressing malaria because of its widespread impact, and today we are proud to take this initiative further by offering more comprehensive health coverage. It is our way of supporting Nigerian families not just with reliable home solutions, but with care that extends into their everyday lives.”

The company said the initiative forms part of its wider corporate social responsibility efforts focused on combining technology with social impact in a country where quality healthcare remains a major concern.

Alongside the healthcare offering, LG highlighted features within its air conditioner portfolio designed for Nigerian climate conditions and energy needs. Its DUALCOOL air conditioners use Dual Inverter Compressor technology to deliver faster cooling while reducing energy consumption, helping consumers manage electricity costs more efficiently.

The products also include smart control features that allow users to monitor and adjust cooling settings remotely through compatible devices.

Selected models are equipped with Mosquito Away technology, which uses ultrasonic wave technology to help reduce mosquito presence indoors, a feature considered particularly relevant in malaria-prone areas.

LG also showcased its ARTCOOL series, which combines modern design with air purification and energy-efficient cooling aimed at contemporary homes.

The company advised customers interested in activating the free insurance package to visit Fouani showrooms or accredited LG dealers nationwide for more information.
