Turkish Airlines has expanded its operations in Romania with the launch of flights to Timișoara, its fourth destination in the country after Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca and Constanta.
The new service will operate five times a week, bringing the airline’s total weekly flight frequency in Romania to 47. An inauguration ceremony was held at Timișoara Traian Vuia International Airport, attended by Turkish Airlines and airport executives, highlighting the importance of the route in strengthening regional connectivity.
Commenting on the development, Turkish Airlines Chief Executive Officer Bilal Ekşi said: “Romania continues to be one of the strategically important markets for Turkish Airlines in Eastern Europe. The launch of our Timișoara flights expands our presence to a fourth city in the country, offering our guests more travel options while strengthening access to our Istanbul-centered unparalleled global network. We believe that this new route will contribute to both commercial and tourism activity in the region.”
Located in western Romania along the Bega River, Timișoara is recognised as a major tourism and business hub, known for its historical heritage and multicultural character. Often referred to as “Little Vienna”, the city is noted for its expansive public squares and vibrant cultural life. Key landmarks such as Union Square (Piața Unirii) and Victory Square (Piața Victoriei) continue to attract visitors, while its designation as European Capital of Culture in 2023 has further elevated its profile.
The addition of Timișoara strengthens Turkish Airlines’ footprint in Romania and enhances passenger access to its global network of 358 destinations via Istanbul.
To mark the launch, the airline is offering promotional fares starting from 169 US dollars for return travel on the Istanbul–Timișoara route, subject to availability and booking conditions.
