Euracare responds to MDCN interim suspension of two doctors over Master Nkanu Nnamdi Esege case

Euracare Multi-Specialist Hospital has issued a formal statement following interim suspension orders handed down by the Medical and Dental Practitioners Investigation Panel in connection with ongoing proceedings relating to the death of Master Nkanu Nnamdi Esege.

The hospital said its attention had been drawn to widespread media reports concerning the panel’s interim suspension orders and other findings against thirteen doctors, two of whom are members of its clinical staff. It stated that it remains fully committed to cooperating with all relevant regulatory and judicial authorities in the course of their inquiries.

Euracare expressed confidence in the professionalism and integrity of its clinical team, specifically naming Dr Tosin Majekodunmi and Dr Titus Ogundare.

“Dr. Tosin Majekodunmi and Dr. Titus Ogundare who are experienced professionals whose records of service to patients in Nigeria span many years. Both doctors have, in their respective careers, contributed meaningfully to the delivery of quality healthcare to Nigerian patients at a standard comparable to what is obtainable in the world’s leading medical facilities.”

The hospital said that, in the interest of transparency, it had conducted a thorough internal review of the clinical events in question since the commencement of the matter, in line with its clinical governance standards and best practice. It added that it had actively demonstrated its commitment to transparency and would continue to engage openly with all inquiries directed at it.

However, Euracare also raised concerns about aspects of the proceedings. It stated that certain established processes and protocols had not been followed as required. The hospital further noted, “with deep concern”, that matters covered by patient and institutional confidentiality appeared to have been disclosed outside appropriate channels, describing this as a serious breach that cannot go unaddressed.

Reaffirming its position, the hospital said it stands by the principles of equality, fairness and good governance. It stressed that every party involved, including the institution and its staff, is entitled to a process conducted with rigour, impartiality and respect for the governing rules. It added that these concerns would be raised through the appropriate legal and regulatory channels.

Euracare concluded by expressing sympathy for the family of Master Nkanu Nnamdi Esege.

“We continue to empathize with the family of Master Nkanu Nnamdi Esege. The loss of a child is a grief without measure, and we carry that awareness in everything we say and do in relation to this matter.”
