LG Electronics Delivers Solar-powered Borehole to College of Education Warri to Improve Student Welfare

LG Electronics has strengthened its commitment to sustainable community development by donating a solar-powered borehole to the College of Education Warri, providing students and staff with reliable access to clean and safe water.

The project, delivered as part of the company’s corporate social responsibility initiatives, is aimed at improving water access on campus while promoting renewable energy solutions. The solar-powered borehole is expected to provide a consistent and environmentally friendly water supply, helping to improve hygiene standards and create a more conducive learning environment for the academic community.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, the Provost of the College of Education, Warri, Dr Dickson Onovwakpoma Oyovwi (JP), expressed appreciation to LG Electronics for what he described as a timely intervention. “This solar-powered borehole project is a significant contribution to our institution. Access to clean water has been a major need for our students and staff, and this donation will greatly improve our daily activities and overall well-being. This water has been sustaining the hostel since its installation”.

Dr Oyovwi emphasised the importance of corporate social responsibility, noting that organisations have a duty to give back to society. He commended LG Electronics for identifying the institution’s needs and supporting education through the initiative, while also urging other corporate bodies to support educational development and community wellbeing.

Also speaking at the event, the Head of Corporate Marketing, LG Electronics Nigeria, Mr Paul Mba, highlighted the company’s dedication to improving lives through sustainable solutions. “At LG Electronics, we believe that meaningful innovation goes beyond technology; it is about improving the quality of life in the communities where we operate. The donation of this solar-powered borehole reflects our commitment to supporting education and providing sustainable solutions that address real community needs,” he said.

The Secretary General of the Student Union Government, Ms Testimony, welcomed the project and assured that the student community would maintain the facility. “We are very grateful to LG Electronics for this project. Getting clean water has sometimes been difficult for students, but this borehole will make life easier for us and help us focus better on our studies. This is a project that will benefit many generations of students,” she said.

The solar-powered borehole aligns with LG Electronics’ broader vision of supporting educational institutions and empowering communities through sustainable infrastructure. By relying on solar energy, the facility will operate efficiently with minimal dependence on public power supply, ensuring long-term reliability.

Representatives of LG Electronics and principal officers of the College of Education Warri attended the commissioning, alongside community leaders and institutional stakeholders.

LG Electronics says it remains committed to implementing initiatives across Nigeria that promote education, sustainability and community development, with plans to extend similar clean water projects to other campuses in need.
