Former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is set to testify before the US Congress on Thursday as part of the ongoing investigation into convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Mrs Clinton, 78, is expected to give evidence under oath on Thursday, ahead of testimony from her husband and former US president Bill Clinton, 79, who is due to appear on Friday.
According to US media reports, both appearances will be conducted via video link rather than in person in Washington. The sessions are expected to be held behind closed doors, leaving uncertainty over how much of the proceedings will be made public.
The Clintons had for months declined to testify before Congress in relation to the Epstein investigation. Democrats have accused the Republican chairman of the relevant House oversight committee, James Comer, of pursuing a politically motivated process.
Reports indicate that the Clintons’ agreement to testify in early February led Republicans to cancel a planned vote on holding them in contempt of Congress.
Mr Clinton’s name and images appear in documents linked to the Epstein investigations, although inclusion alone does not imply wrongdoing. The former president has repeatedly denied any misconduct in connection with his acquaintance with Epstein.
Epstein ran a long-standing abuse ring that exploited dozens of young women and minors. The New York financier, who had extensive connections among US high society, died in his prison cell in 2019 before a conviction could be secured.
