Sunbeth Global Concepts Becomes First Nigerian Company in Decades to Secure Licence to Buy Premium Ghanaian Cocoa

In a landmark move for intra-African trade, Sunbeth Global Concepts Limited, one of Nigeria’s foremost cocoa exporters, has become the first Nigerian company in decades to be officially licensed to source premium cocoa beans directly from the Ghana Cocoa Marketing Company (CMC Ghana).

The milestone follows successful negotiations between Sunbeth and CMC Ghana, culminating in a formal partnership that underscores a growing commitment to deepening Ghana-Nigeria trade relations and strengthening Africa’s position in the global cocoa value chain.

Olasunkanmi Owoyemi, Managing Director of Sunbeth Global Concepts, described the partnership as a pivotal step in advancing African collaboration.

Fuad Mohammed Abubakar, Managing Director of Ghana Cocoa Marketing Company Limited, also praised the partnership, highlighting its significance for regional trade.

This achievement marks the first time in decades that a Nigerian company is sourcing directly from CMC Ghana. It reflects a shared vision of Africa trading with Africa, and with the support of partners like SFI Agri Commodities, Sunbeth is well-positioned to expand Ghana's cocoa into new markets."

Backed by its UK-based partner, SFI Agri Commodities, Sunbeth aims to expand its footprint across West Africa and supply Ghana’s premium cocoa to leading international chocolate manufacturers.

Founded in 2017, Sunbeth Global Concepts has exported over 200,000 metric tonnes of agricultural commodities and currently holds around 15% of Nigeria’s cocoa export market. The company’s growth has been driven by its commitment to ethical sourcing, farmer empowerment, and sustainability, aligning with global trends towards responsible and transparent supply chains.

This historic partnership between Sunbeth and CMC Ghana not only marks a new chapter in Africa’s agricultural trade integration but also reinforces the continent’s potential to shape a more self-reliant, value-driven cocoa industry.
