Reddington Hospital, Oniru of Iruland Launch Free Medical Outreach for Over 500 Residents

The Reddington Multi-Specialists Hospital, Lagos, in collaboration with His Royal Majesty, Oba Abdulwasiu Omogbolahan Lawal, the Oniru of Iruland, has brought free medical care to the people of Oniru community in Victoria Island, Lagos.

The medical outreach, held on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at the Oniru Palace, offered residents free consultations, health screenings, nutrition counselling, pharmacy services, and referrals. A 53-member medical team from Reddington Hospital, including doctors, nurses, nutritionists, pharmacists, laboratory scientists, dentists, physiotherapists, ophthalmologists, and other specialists—attended to the community.

Dr. Abiodun Osibamowo, Medical Director of Reddington Multi-Specialists Hospital, stressed the importance of early screening and preventive healthcare. “You don’t wait until you start seeing symptoms of diseases before you come to the hospital. By that time, it may be too late and the doctors would be constrained in saving the patient,” he told residents at the event.

Dr. Osibamowo explained that the outreach was born out of the hospital’s partnership with the Oniru-in-council, following Oba Lawal’s request earlier this year during his fifth coronation anniversary. “This medical outreach marks the beginning of such partnership,” he said, praising the monarch’s leadership since ascending the throne.

Oba Abdulwasiu Lawal commended Reddington Hospital for deploying a strong team of multi-specialists, describing the outreach as life-changing for his people. “I am very passionate about the health and wellbeing of my people. That is why the Oniru-in-council is partnering with a reputable hospital like Reddington to provide free medical services and ensure we have a healthy community able to work and earn a living,” the monarch said.

The event also featured an interactive session led by Dr. Osibamowo, where residents asked questions about hypertension, obesity, stroke, cancer, ulcers, and other health concerns. He emphasized the role of proper diet, regular exercise, and consistent check-ups in preventing chronic diseases.

More than 500 men, women, and children benefitted from the outreach. Mrs. Ige Salako, one of the attendees, expressed gratitude: “I am happy about this programme and I pray to God to keep our Oba because visiting the hospital these days is very expensive. I also learnt a lot from the Medical Director during the questions and answers session, especially the causes of high blood pressure and stroke and how to prevent it.”

Another beneficiary, Abdullatif Ogunbambi Abisogun, urged that such initiatives be held more frequently. “We need to be checking our health status from time to time. Prevention is better than medication,” he said.
