X set to roll out audio and video call features for Android

Elon Musk's social network, X is set to revolutionize its Android experience with the introduction of audio and video call features after an initial iOS launch. An X engineer involved in the project revealed that Android users will gain access to this exciting feature through a simple app update.

The anticipation for this update began in August 2023 when CEO Linda Yaccarino hinted at the forthcoming introduction of video calls on the X platform. True to her word, the feature was successfully rolled out to iOS users by October. Notably, while all users can receive calls, the privilege to initiate calls is reserved exclusively for paid subscribers, highlighting a range of exclusive features available to them on the X platform.

A recent development saw the withdrawal of a unique feature that allowed premium users to set an NFT as their profile picture earlier this month.

Users now have greater control over their call settings, accessible through the path: "Settings > Privacy and Safety > Direct Messages > Enable audio and video calling." This customization enables users to decide who can call them, choosing from options such as people in their contacts, individuals they follow, and verified users. Multiple selections can be made to tailor their calling experience.

Despite facing some setbacks, X remains unwavering in its commitment to becoming an "everything app." The company's recently unveiled 2024 vision promises the introduction of peer-to-peer payments, innovative xAI-powered features like "show dissimilar posts," and expanded ad products for marketers.

In the face of challenges, Elon Musk has been vocal about his discontent with companies that pulled their ads from X. Despite this, reports suggest a shift in advertiser preferences towards platforms like LinkedIn, following Musk's pointed comment at a November 2023 event where he told them to "Go f*ck yourself."
