Twitter has unveiled its new logo, replacing the blue bird on its website with an X as part of a broader rebranding effort. On Monday, the social media network's website displayed the company's new logo: a white X on a black background.
For more than a decade, Twitter has utilised its bright, widely recognised blue bird icon.
Notably, Musk said on Twitter that x.com now redirects to twitter.com. Musk also referred to this as an "interim" logo in the post, implying that another logo change is possible in the future.
The social network might not be pleased by just changing the logo. Musk stated that Twitter will eventually "bid adieu to the Twitter brand and, gradually, all the birds."
Musk changed his profile image to the new Twitter logo late Sunday. Twitter's official account, @Twitter, has also adopted the new X logo as its name and display image.
Musk also hinted in a response to a user that people should refer to Tweets as "X's."
According to the company's CEO, Linda Yaccarino, while Twitter transformed the way people communicated, X will go even further, with capabilities "centred in audio, video, messaging, payment/banking," and will be a "global marketplace for ideas, goods, services, and opportunities." That sounds like a lot of different things.
Musk's preoccupation with the letter 'X' is well documented. He established X.com in 1997, which later became PayPal. His space business SpaceX incorporates the letter 'X' as its logo. And, most recently, he launched X.ai, an AI firm. The Musk-owned social network changed its formal name from Twtter Inc. to X Corp. in April.
This is not Musk's first time redesigning the Twitter logo. He briefly changed the social network's logo to the Doge meme earlier this year. A developer who created an extension to prevent the doge logo stated that it also works with the new "X" logo, allowing you to swiftly restore the bird logo.
Twitter's new X logo marks a significant shift for the platform, hinting at its future transformation beyond just a social network. Elon Musk's fascination with the letter 'X' continues, and it seems X might become a symbol of innovation across various realms, making this logo change more than just a visual update.
