When Will Realme Berth in Africa?

Realme, an independent entity from Chinese smartphone major OPPO has continued to expand its market share in many developing nations across the world. The brand now boast of an estimated 4 million users in India and has announced plans to extend its operations to the Middle East and Africa.

The Chinese mobile phone company which is primary targeted at millennials now compete in some of the top players from the country such Huawei, Oppo, Xiaomi and Lenovo in the global market.

It latest smartphones, realme X and realme 3i launched in India recently have since rasied the question: when will Realme berth in Africa.

According to a recent report released by Twinpine Networks, a premium mobile advertising network, Nigeria has retained its position as the most mobilized country in the world. Mobile penetration in the country increased from 40 percent recorded last year to 74 percent this year. 81 percent of the mobile traffic in Nigeria comes through mobile compared to India and South Africa, which has 79 percent and 78 percent respectively.

With the growing number of mobile phone users in Nigeria, it is not out of place to say that Nigerians are mobile-obsessed. This is due to the fact that almost everyone in the country, which includes those in the rural area, has a phone. People who don’t have electricity in their homes look for ways to charge their phones. The power bank market in the country is also a growing market because people need a mobile backup charger to charge their phones. Businesses in Nigeria now make use of mobile advertising to advertise their businesses instead of making use of the older way of using billboards, which actually costs more.

Sub-Saharan Africa has led the world in mobile take-up growth in the past few years. The number of mobile internet subscribers in Sub-Saharan Africa has quadrupled since the start of the decade. For many users it's the only way they can get online. Mobile broadband is currently available to two-thirds of the regional population.

By 2025 mobile broadband will account for 87 percent of mobile connections. The current figure for these services is 38 percent.

In term of mobile connections, 3G will account for 60 percent by 2025 while nearly 300 million new subscribers are expected to access the mobile internet in the next seven years.

Without any iota of doubt, Africa is a fast growing smartphone market and any brand that can offer top feature devices will definately gain market penetration.

So, when will Realme berth in Africa?
