Mesut Özil Signs Up As Ambassador For PES 2017

German and Arsenal forward Mesut Özil is a new brand ambassador for Pro Evolution Soccer 2017, the football video game developed by Konami.

The playmaker will lend his image to future promotional campaigns for the series. Konami has released a trailer for the new edition of the game starring Özil in pixelated form.

“KONAMI has perfected the recreation of football at its highest level, and it is a great feeling to have been chosen as an Ambassador for this incredible series,” said Özil.

“I have been following PES for years. The series has improved with each year and it has always been among my favourite console games. No other game mimics the individuality of playing styles as PES 2017 does, with players capable of changing a game with one remarkable piece of skill. It is fantastic to see myself playing in the game as I do for Arsenal and Germany, and I am extremely excited to be part of this fantastic football project,” Özil added.

Özil, who moved to the Premier League from Real Madrid in 2013, has 18 months remaining on his contract and while the London club have reportedly offered the Fifa World Cup winner an extension worth something in the region of UK£200,000 (US$250,000) a week, he is yet to sign. However, Özil has recently acquired a UK£10 million (US$12.5 million) house in North London, leading many to suggest that a new deal is inevitable.
