SuperSport retains Premier League rights in Sub-Saharan Africa

SuperSport, part of the MultiChoice pay TV business, has extended its long-term association with Premier League. It has acquired three years broadcast rights across sub-Saharan Africa region.

The broadcaster will live broadcast the seasons from 2016/17 to 2018/19 on its pay-TV platform. Supersport has been the broadcast partner of the Premier League since its launch in 1992/93 in Africa.

“We are extremely pleased that SuperSport has chosen to invest in our broadcasting rights in sub-Saharan Africa for seasons 2016/17 to 2018/19,” said Richard Scudamore, Executive Chairman of Premier League. “SuperSport is a long-term partner of the Premier League and has an excellent track record of delivering high-quality coverage of our competition for fans in the region.”

The Premier League will conduct a separate sales process for a free-to-air package in sub-Saharan Africa which includes the rights to broadcast one live fixture per match-round, said a press note.
