Office 365 Video rolls out worldwide

Microsoft is expanding its Office 365 service with the video option which allows companies to upload and share videos internally.  This service which was introduced in November 2014 is now being rolled out globally. This feature facilitates easy sharing of multimedia over a company’s intranet, negating the need for file transfers.

Microsoft describes Office 365 Video as an intranet website portal where people in an organization can post and view videos.

“It’s a streaming video service for your organization that’s available with SharePoint Online in Office 365. It’s a great place to share videos of executive communications or recordings of classes, meetings, presentations, or training sessions, for example. Office 365 Video displays a thumbnail image of each video on the site. You just select a thumbnail to view a particular video,” Microsoft said.

Office 365 Video has channels – The service comes with a standard channel called Community, to which all subscribed users can upload videos. permissions for specific channels will be managed by IT admins via Active Directory.

All uploaded videos will be available in several resolutions, allowing those on lower bandwidth to also stream the content with ease. Playback support is available for all major desktop and mobile platforms through an HTML5-based player.

Microsoft currently offers a native app for Office 365 Video on iOS, but other platforms will receive native apps as well sometime soon. For now, the new service is available to Office 365 Enterprise and Academic plan subscribers.
