#NigeriaDecides: BrandArena Congratulates President-Elect Buhari

After few weeks of political stunts and aggressive campaigns, Nigerians finally gave their mandate to the 'General', Rtd. General Muhammad Buhari.

Muhammadu Buhari, a former army general and reformed democrat, unseat president Goodluck Jonathan in the most closely contested election in the country’s history. It was also the first to be played out at such a scale on social media.

The social media was yesterday awashed with applauds to INEC chairman, Attahiru Jega and his team, congratulatory messages for and of course expectations from Rtd. General Muhammad Buhari.

Lot of Nigerians at home and in diasporal tweeted which the hashtag: #NigeriaDecides

We congratulate all Nigerians and Rtd. General Muhammad Buhari for the victory.

#BrandArena Message To Nigerians:

In the euphoria of sai Buhari! It should not be lost on us that Dr Goodluck Jonathan has shown decency in the whole process that has brought Rtd. General Buhari to office. He has demonstrated that one could be part of a game. One is organizing and yet be honourable enough to accept defeat. The position of the president of Nigeria is stupendously attractive, influential and lucrative, one anyone could like to hold forever. Jonathan has shown no unbridled appetite to keep this office otherwise there would have been chaos in the land now.

This election resurrects the famous June 12,1993 election, a watershed which exemplifies the will of God and that of the people. But in this case, Jonathan is not matching Babangida, he is toeing the path of a gentleman. As he prepares to leave office, Nigerians should be magnanimous enough to give credit to this man for trying his best on one of the hottest presidential seats in the world. His weaknesses and inadequacies notwithstanding, all of us do have ours, Jonathan goes into history as one of the most accommodating leaders this nation has ever had and Africa should also celebrate him.

It should also be noted that in spite of the heavy waves of love and acceptance for him, President-elect, Rtd. General Buhari faces a mammoth challenge of living up to expectations. His arrival is seen as Messianic but the job is gargantuan and requires he lives above board. From the day he swears the oath of office, his scrutiny begins too. He will be expected to outdo Goodluck Jonathan, Musa Yar'Adua, Olusegun Obasanjo, Gbadamosi Babangida, Muhammad Abacha, Shehu Shagari, Gowon, Muritala Muhammad, Agusi Ironsi , Obafemi Awolowo, Amodu Bello and Tafawa Balewa in just one or two years!

He will be expected to fight corruption with his last drop of blood which has been his mantra. He will be expected to turn our economy to El Eldorado in one or two years. Buhari will have to work with strong, decent and brilliant men and women who should share and work his dreams for Nigeria. He will contend with the primordial sentiments of religion and tribe,he will face the new perplexity and sophistication of democratic Nigeria, the one that was not there in the 1980s when he was a military ruler.

May God help him, God Bless Nigeria.
