YouTube Watch Out! Facebook Unveils Embeddable Videos

At the annual F8 developer on Wednesday, Facebook introduced a new features that ability users to embed Facebook videos on other websites.

The new feature makes it easier for content hosted on its platform to be visible outside its namesake network.

Deborah Liu, a Facebook product marketing manager, told an audience of software developers that publishers, bloggers, and other content creators can immediately use a provided embed code to publish Facebook-hosted video on websites—a clear shot across the bow of Google, which owns YouTube, the dominant host of Internet video.

The social networking giant yesterday launched a version of its Parse mobile development platform for the Internet-of-things and, in doing so, has joined the ranks of Apple, Google and Samsung as big companies to watch in the consumer IoT space.


At the conference, it also announced a Messenger Platform, which features a compose window loaded with third-party apps (40 for now), and a new customer-support communication with businesses.

Additionally, it is also launching a mobile ad exchange called LiveRail that lets publishers sell display and video ads using Facebook data alongside cookies.
