Google awarded patent for their smart contact lens

This week the US patent authorities granted Google its patent to make contact lenses.

The patent makes it clear there will be a sensor on the lenses, indicating that it could be used to monitor glucose, as Google has confirmed that it is working with Novartis to make a glucose-monitoring contact lens for diabetics.

The contact lenses are thought to be a seperate project from the Google Glass program, according to Web Pro News, which spotted the patent.

Google struck a deal with drug maker Novartis in July 2014 to help make the lens.
