Political Advertising: When Nigerian Celebrities Join Lagos APC Candidate, Ambode In 'I Believe' Campaign

It is that time again in our national life when politicians, attempt to outdo each other in the public space with their political campaign messages. Nigerian politicians are beginning to recognize the importance of political branding and marketing as a science to win votes.

When the politician craft his campaign messages as being the fight to improve the life of the voters’ life, or something similar and come with some good measure of integrity, the voters are more likely to believe him. The import of the foregoing is that the voters will not trust any candidate until they are clear such candidate has the voters’ interest at heart.

On Wednesday, the city of Lagos literally went down on its knees when members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) hit town for their governorship candidate, Akinwunmi Ambode. It was the day they chose to unveil their youthful flagbearer to the public.

A creative video campaign – “I believe” of Ambode also went viral – featuring some of the A-list musicians, Nollywood actors and actresses. The video presents Lagos as a place where anything good can happen.

The list of celebrities include Funke Akindele, MI Abaga, Dammy Krane, Flavour, Desmond Elliot, Olamide, Ice Prince, BankyW, Yemi Alade, Uti and many more.



With a total area of 3,577km sq, Lagos State remains the smallest State of the 36 States in Nigeria. One-fifth (22%) of this area is covered by lagoons and creeks. Notwithstanding, Lagos State remains the commercial nerve center of Nigeria. With a population estimated at about 20 million – equivalent of 32 African Countries combined – Lagos State is the sixth largest economy in Africa.
